RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE 2

The Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has concluded the 2025 edition of its Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme, aimed at strengthening digital capacity among Nigerian women. The closing ceremony was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and was hosted by the First Lady and National Chairman of the Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.

In her remarks, the First Lady congratulated the 2025 cohort for completing the training, urging them to remain confident as they begin applying their new skills. “Do not be afraid to start small,” she told the participants.

“One day, somebody will notice your efforts.” Senator Tinubu also revealed that the ICT programme would soon be extended to the wives of executive officeholders, while encouraging trainees from all geopolitical zones to leverage their knowledge to build a digital future, seek continuous learning, and explore emerging opportunities in the digital space. She commended NITDA’s leadership for expanding digital empowerment initiatives for women nationwide.

NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, in his welcome address, emphasized that the programme is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the administration’s drive toward economic diversification, human capital development, and digital inclusion.

Reaffirming NITDA’s commitment to a digitally empowered nation, Inuwa highlighted the importance of widespread digital literacy in unlocking national potential. He noted that the Agency’s National Digital Literacy Framework targets 95 percent digital literacy by 2030, with an interim target of 70 percent by 2027.

Participants underwent three weeks of intensive training covering digital devices and software use, content creation, digital marketing, online safety, and basic ICT problem-solving. The DG further disclosed the programme’s steady growth: 35 women trained in 2023, 252 in 2024, and 320 in 2025—bringing the total to more than 600 beneficiaries. He added that under the current administration, NITDA has trained over 1,000,143 Nigerians, including 32,000 civil servants in digital literacy and skills.

Inuwa urged participants to serve as digital ambassadors within their communities by applying their skills and mentoring at least two to three other women.

The ceremony ended with expressions of gratitude from trainees, who said they were better equipped to participate in and contribute to Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
