The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Navy, Senator Olugbenga Daniel, and members of the Committee on Monday paid a courtesy visit to Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, as part of their oversight functions.

The on-the-spot assessment of Naval Bases, Ships, and other Establishments within the Calabar area allowed access to their working ethics.

The delegation was received by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral KC Ezete, the Fleet Commander, Eastern Fleet, and Principal Staff Officers at the Command’s Conference Room, where a brief presentation was made.

In his remarks, the Chairman Senate Committee on the Navy, Senator Olugbenga Daniel, commended the Command for its outstanding efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain.

He cited notable achievements, including the rescue of kidnapped passengers and several successful anti-crime operations, noting that Nigerians greatly appreciate the Navy’s efforts.

He also emphasized the need to enhance operational capabilities through the use of drones and helicopters, while acknowledging challenges such as accommodation constraints, collapsed jetties, and fuel shortages.

He recommended the installation of CCTV systems to improve monitoring and fuel management, and urged the Command to submit a prioritized list of needs for inclusion in the Committee’s legislative agenda.

Also speaking, Senator Kelvin Chukwu praised the Command’s dedication and called for stronger inter-agency collaboration to sustain maritime security gains.

Responding, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral KC Ezete appreciated the Committee’s visit and support, noting that CCTV systems have already been installed on board ships and strict measures implemented to curb theft.

He reaffirmed that drones and helicopters remain key operational priorities for the Command.
