Men of Anambra State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a seven-man syndicate who have been terrorizing the community and vandalising electrical installations, stealing and dispossessing residents of their belongings.
They were arrested on July 13, 2022, following credible information by residents of Obeledu town and its environs about the notoriety of the criminal gangs.
The suspects who all hailed from Ebonyi State included Onyimonyi Chinedu, 34 from Onueke Izza South L.G. A Ebonyi State; Elesi Promise Chikamso, 32 from Oji River L.G.A , Enugu State; Nwube Sunday, 32 from Onueke Izza South L.G. A Ebonyi State; Nwankwo Solomon, 22 from Okofia Izza South L.G. A Ebonyi State; Ejike Stephen Ogonna, 20 from Onueke Izza South L.G. A Ebonyi State;
Johnson Chigozie, 23 from Ndiukwu Amaika Izza South L.G.A Ebonyi State, and Nwafor Solomon, 28 from Onueke Izza South L.G.A Ebonyi State.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Friday, the spokesperson for NSCDC, Anambra State Command, DSC Okadigbo Edwin revealed that the newly deployed State Commandant, Mr. Isidore Chukwudi Chikere after receiving information, activated a combined team of Intelligence and Investigation operatives who stormed the area and rounded up the suspects.
On interrogation, they admitted to committing the crime and pleaded for mercy promising not to engage in such a criminal act again.
However, exhibits recovered from them include bundles of wire, 300sq UPV casing pipes, Shifting spanners, and a Mud pump.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Mr. Chikere, who appreciated his men for their quick response, has ordered for discreet investigation after which the seven suspects would be charged to court.
As a result, Commandant Chikere has appealed to members of the public to assist the NSCDC and other security agencies in the State by giving them useful information that would assist in tracking down criminals within their areas.
