Determined to ensure that the needs of soldiers are met, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has commissioned the newly constructed Student Soldiers’ Hostel at the Nigerian Army School of Signals (NASS) in Apapa, Lagos.
The commissioning, which took place on Friday, 28th February, 2025, demonstrates the COAS’ resolve to put soldiers of the Nigerian Army first by providing an effective learning environment, in tandem with his “Soldier-First” culture.
Delivering his address, General Oluyede promised to embark on more standard projects and rehabilitation of dilapidated structures into befitting ones. He urged all personnel to adopt a healthy maintenance culture required to sustain the newly constructed facility.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Commandant NASS, Maj Gen Philip Ilodibia appreciated the COAS for authorizing the funding of the project.
He noted that the lack of befitting accommodation has been one of the school’s most pressing challenges over the years, adding that the commissioned project was not only timely, but a significant milestone towards repositioning the school to take its rightful place as a leading citadel of excellence in the field of Combat Communication, Telecommunication, Engineering and Information Technology.
The Army Chief also visited the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, where he also commissioned a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Center to enhance adequate medical care for personnel and paid a visit to in-patients at the hospital.
According to the Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR), Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu added that dignitaries who graced the commissioning ceremony were the Commander Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Kelvin Aligbe, Principal Staff officers from Defence and Services Headquarters, Commander Corps of Signals, Maj Gen Nosaghare Ugbo, General Officer Commanding 81 Division Maj Gen Farouk Mijinyawa, Maj Gen Danbata (retd) former Corps Commander Signals, among other dignitaries.
