
In an ongoing nationwide Nigerian Army operation, a notorious terrorist kingpin, Amiral Fiya (aka Abu Nazir) has been killed in an encounter with men of the Nigerian Army in Borno state.
In the process, other suspects were arrested while different calibre of assorted weapons were recovered.
Disclosing this in Abuja on Sunday, 10th August 2025, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apollonia Anele explained that the operation was a milestone leading to the decapitation of the notorious terrorist commander.
It was learnt that Amiral Fiya was neutralized on the 7th of August 2025, after troops of 3 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Rann Kala in Balge Local Government Area of Borno State repelled an attack by ISWAP/JAS terrorists.

During exploitation at first light, the troops discovered the corpses of three terrorists, including their top Commander, who was identified as Amirul Fiya (aka Abu Nazir).
However, blood trails at the scene indicated other terrorists escaped with injuries, and one AK-47 rifle, an unexploded ordnance, two rocket-propelled grenades, and other items were recovered.
A follow-up operation on the Saturday, 9th August 2025, the troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force/Hybrid Force discovered another terrorist corpse and recovered one QJC Barrel gun, one AA gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack, and a bicycle.
The Army spokesperson noted that the successes underscored the Nigerian Army’s unwavering resolve to defend the nation’s sovereignty, protect law-abiding citizens, and deny criminal elements the freedom to operate.
Reiterating the significance of the operations, she expressed the Nigerian Army commitment to sustaining aggressive operations in synergy with other security agencies to ensure lasting peace and security across Nigeria.

Similarly, in Zamfara State, on the 8th of August 2025, based on credible intelligence, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 responded to terrorist activities along Road Gusau–Kaura Namoda in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, Kaura Namoda LGA and forced the terrorists to flee, leading to the rescue of two kidnapped victims who have since been reunited with their families.
Other operations by the army were in Ebonyi State on Saturday, 9th August 2025, as troops of 24 Special Engineer Regiment intervened in a communal crisis between Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo LGA.
As a result, the troops came under fire from an abandoned building and a decisive response led to the neutralization of one-armed criminal.
Lt Col Anele further revealed that the operation yielded result as one G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades were recovered.
