
As part of the efforts to enhance troops’ skills and operational capabilities, the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has inaugurated the Batch 3 of the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) Instructors’ Development Course 2025, at the Theatre Training School Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, on the 11th July, 2025.
General Abdulsalam during the inauguration ceremony said, the training marked another journey, that promises to enhance personnel skills, expand their knowledge, and strengthen their instructional capabilities.
He added that training was not only an essential part of a soldier’s professional growth, but also a substance for the enhancement of fighting efficiency.
Speaking further, the Theatre Commander acknowledged the importance of training in enhancing troops’ operational efficiency in the North East theatre of operations, stressing that collective efforts in combating terrorism, requires a well-trained and professional force that is able to work in synergy.
General Abubakar urged the trainees to approach the training with humility, a sense of purpose, responsibility, open-mindedness and willingness to learn. He equally thanked the BMATT for their unwavering support and commitment to OPHK’s training endeavours.

Earlier in his remarks, the representative of the British Defence Staff, Captain Charlie Bradbury, commended the sacrifices of Nigerian military, as well as the successes of troops against Boko Haram. He assured OPHK of their continued support, especially in the areas of Counter Improvised Explosive Device trainings, Tactics and Medical Cover amongst others.
Also in his welcome remarks, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, said the course is a specialised training programme, designed to equip experienced and potential military instructors with the skills and knowledge necessary to train personnel effectively.
He added that the participants were drawn from the 3 Sectors of OPHK, Maritime and Air Components, as well as other subunits within OPHK.
The event was attended by senior military officials, including the Deputy Theatre Commander and Component Commanders.
