In its desperate attempt to ensure that criminal elements are obliterated in Delta State and galvanise economic prosperity, the police command on June 6, 2021, about 2145hrs, while acting on a distressed call from an unknown caller that four armed men, suspected to be kidnappers shot sporadically at Biokoro extension and kidnapped one Efe Caroline, a female 38 years old.
The operation led by the divisional police officer, Orerokpe division got to the scene and sighted the hoodlums and subsequently gave them a hot chase while at the same time engaged them in a shootout within Okujorogun Community.
As a result, they were overwhelmed by the superior firepower leading to the abandonment of the victims while the hoodlums fled. However, a manhunt for the hoodlums is ongoing with a view to arresting them.
In another development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali’s order mandating the Commander State Anti-cult unit (SACU), SP Christopher Igbaji to relocate to Ogwashi-Uku and bring an end to the cult crisis in the area has started yielding result.
Based on intelligence, it was revealed that there was a house at Azungu Quarters Ogwashi-Uku, where cultists usually converge and plan how to attack their fellow cult rivals.
However, on June 6, 2021, at about 2130hrs, the Commander SACU mobilized a combined team of Delta state anti-cult unit (SACU) in conjunction with Special Tactical Squad (STS) attached to Delta Command and stormed the hideout and arrested three suspects.
The suspects were identified as Lucky Nwose ‘m’ 23 years old, Somto Azubuike ‘m’ 18 years old, and Omali Maxwell ‘m’ 18 years old, all members of Supreme Vikings Confraternity aka ARO BAGGER.
Recovered from them included one English automatic pump action gun loaded with two live cartridges.
Also, a routine patrol, stop and search including pin down have yielded results and police proactivity in Delta state command has continued to pay off in the fight against criminals in the state.
As a result, on May 28, 2021, about 0930hrs, a police operative of the Divisional Quick Response team attached to ‘A’ Division Warri on routine patrol at Ugbuangue community sighted a young man in a suspicious manner, when the team approached the said suspect, he hurriedly abandoned his handbag and took to his heels.
After conducting a search on the bag, one locally-made cut-to-size double barrel gun was found in it. On suspicion that the suspect might come back to carry his weapon, the team laid an ambush in the bush, after a short while the said suspect resurfaced with the intention of collecting the bag and was apprehended.
The suspect identified as Joshua Godwin ‘m’ 28 years old is under investigation on how he got the arms. The police also arrested a motorcyclist who was sighted about 1030hrs, by the Eagle-Net patrol team while on patrol along Koka Ibusa expressway.
The suspicious motorcyclist who was making calls when the team intercepted him was subjected to a thorough search was leading to the recovery of a locally made pistol.
The suspect identified as Solomon Omachonu ‘m’ 27 years of Igbedo community Nzam Olumbanasa Anambra West Local government of Anambra State but residing at Amusement Park in Koka area of Asaba was arrested.
Other exhibits recovered includes an army colour face cap, a camouflage army colour belt and a wristwatch with an unregistered motorcycle.
Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe says investigation was on-going adding that the proactive enunciated by Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali is key to redefining policing in the state.
