President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of ongoing efforts to bolster the nation’s security architecture and enhance operational effectiveness.
In the new appointments announced on Thursday, General Olufemi Oluyede was named the Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. The President also appointed Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs for their patriotic service and leadership contributions to national security.
He charged the newly appointed military chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating renewed professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
