TROOPS APPREHEND THREE SUSPECTED

The gallant troops of the 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to national security by apprehending three suspected gunrunners in Kaduna State.

Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, in a statement, disclosed that the operation, conducted on Thursday, was a result of meticulous planning and actionable intelligence that led to the interception and subsequent arrest of the suspects, Yakubu Jibril (45), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Isiya Sani (30).

According to him, the suspects were caught red-handed while travelling in a black Golf 4 vehicle with Registration Number ABUJA 385 K7 along the Kauya–Old Afaka–Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area of the State.

He said a thorough search of the vehicle revealed a significant cache of arms and ammunition, indicating their nefarious intentions to supply criminal elements in remote areas.

General Kangye revealed that among the items seized were 9 x AK-47 rifles, 389 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) live ammunition, 54 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO) ammunition, 17 rifle magazines, GSM handsets, other incriminating items and a cash sum of Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand, Six Hundred Naira.

He further noted that the successful arrest and seizure highlight the effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces (AFN) in combating insurgency and criminal activities. The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing rigorous interrogation and investigation to dismantle the entire network involved in illicit arms trafficking. This operation underscores the military’s relentless efforts to safeguard citizens, particularly in regions vulnerable to insurgent and bandit activities.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has commended the troops for their proactive response and reassured the public of ongoing security operations with heightened vigilance. This resolute action sends a clear message to all criminal elements that the Nigerian Armed Forces are resolute in their mission to ensure the safety and security of the populace. The recovered arms and ammunition serve as tangible evidence of the military’s dedication to eradicating threats to national security.
