Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded fresh operational successes against terrorists in the North East, destroying several insurgent camps, recovering arms and logistics, and repelling coordinated attacks in the Timbuktu Triangle.
The successes were achieved under Operation DESERT SANITY on Sunday, January 18, 2026, when troops advanced from their harbour area to conduct deliberate, intelligence-led operations across identified terrorist enclaves, including Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma.

According to the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operation was strongly supported by the Air Component of OPHK, which provided sustained Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) coverage. The air-ground coordination enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred reinforcements, and significantly enhanced the precision and effectiveness of ground forces.
During the clearance operations, troops destroyed multiple terrorist camps and recovered items of military and logistical significance. These included communication equipment such as Baofeng radios and mobile phones, five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62×39mm special ammunition, 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, links of 12.7×108mm ammunition, as well as Boko Haram/ISWAP flags. Other recoveries included a pick-up truck, diesel-powered grinding machines, large quantities of medical supplies and food items, underground logistics storage facilities, and a Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) dump.

At about midday, advancing troops came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists. Despite the attack, the troops maintained their momentum and continued the offensive. A second attempt by the insurgents in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing them to withdraw and further affirming the troops’ dominance of the area.
Military sources said troops’ morale remains high and fighting efficiency sustained despite prolonged engagements. The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining a high level of vigilance and readiness.
The Military High Command has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the ongoing operations, stressing that troops remain resolute in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats, protect civilians, and restore lasting peace and stability to the North East.
