…Commissioner Attributes Achievement to Gov. Ikpeazu’s Investment Drive
Two indigenes of Abia State have emerged tops with each of them bagging a National Merit Award at a ceremony recently held in Abuja even as the State’s Commissioner for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, (SME), Mr Onyema Wachukwu described the Awards in fashion design and leather works as a reward for the huge investment Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has made in the SME sector of the State.
Speaking at a press briefing on the latest MSME National Merit Award where two Abians, Miss Prosper Erem and Mr Clement Orjinta won awards, Mr. Wachukwu noted that Abia is the only State with two awardees at the event. He pointed out that Abians are naturally blessed with entrepreneurial skills and that Governor Ikpeazu has leveraged on the ingenuity and creative mindset of an average Abian in placing the State on the global map.
The Commissioner extolled the Governor for his relentless efforts in developing the SME sector of the State assuring that his Ministry was determined to make positive impact on the SME sector of the State.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Job Creation, Mr Chinenye Nwaogu noted that the passion of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in SME development has led to the infrastructural revolution in Aba and other parts of the State, adding that the first ever 7000 pairs capacity Automated Shoe Factory built by the present administration will soon be commissioned for use.
Mr. Nwaogu explained that the 30 shoe makers who were trained on Automation in China by the State Government have the choice to either be full time workers or as partners in the factory, while assuring that the Governor was determined to creating millions of jobs through the SME eco-system of the State.
Contributing also, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the brand Ambassador of Made in Abia Goods has laid a solid foundation for further growth and development of SME, adding that the recent awards in SME was the 3rd Abia has received since Governor Ikpeazu’s administration.
Speaking on behalf of the two National awardees, the Ohafia-born Miss Prosper Erem said that her family background spurred her into leather works and thanked Governor Ikpeazu for exposing them to the global community in SME.
The two awardees; Miss Prosper Erem and Mr. Clement Orjinta were among other Nigerians honoured with Micro Small and Medium Enterprises National Merit Awards in Abuja in a virtual award ceremony presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
