Two passengers sustained serious injuries in a road traffic crash involving a commercial bus along the Heritage Garden axis of the Oshodi–Oke corridor in Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day and involved a red Tata long commercial bus with registration number MUS 507 XX. Preliminary investigations by traffic officials indicated that excessive speed was a major factor in the crash.
According to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the bus rammed into another moving truck, which reportedly drove away from the scene without sustaining visible damage, making immediate identification difficult.

LASTMA operatives deployed in the area swiftly responded to the distress call and arrived at the scene within minutes. On arrival, officers rescued two passengers who were critically injured and trapped inside the damaged bus.
Emergency response procedures were immediately activated, with the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) promptly contacted. The ambulance team administered first aid at the scene before transporting the injured passengers to a medical facility for further treatment.
To prevent further traffic disruption and secondary accidents, LASTMA officials apprehended the driver of the commercial bus for investigation and evacuated the damaged vehicle from the road to restore free flow of traffic along the expressway.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.
He described the crash as unfortunate but avoidable, stressing that excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of road accidents in the state.
Bakare-Oki urged both commercial and private motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to prescribed speed limits as indicated on road signs.
“Speeding continues to account for many road crashes and needless loss of lives. Observing speed regulations is not optional; it is a civic and moral responsibility for all road users,” he said.
He further appealed to motorists to drive defensively, obey traffic laws and cooperate with traffic officials, emphasizing that collective responsibility and road discipline are critical to sustaining road safety in Lagos State.
