The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has admonished officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army that any sort of unprofessional conduct wouldn’t be tolerated from personnel.
He noted that the force would continue to strive with a view to providing an enabling environment, logistical needs, sound welfare and accommodation that would spur them to greater performances.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation on Thursday at Ojo Cantonment, Lagos, he eulogized troops battling an insurgency in the theatre of war for their commitment and dexterity.
Other projects the Chief of Army Staff commissioned included the Nigerian Army Ordinance School Students’ Hostel and Ablution Block and 70 Command Supply and Transport Transit Officers’ Accommodation at Arakan Cantonment, Apapa.
In addition, he inaugurated the newly built official residences of the Commander and Deputy Commander, Command Finance Office House at Apapa and the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Signals Barracks, Mile 2.
According to Gen Yahaya, “The NA shall continue to intervene in projects of barracks renovation and construction, procurement of new platforms and rehabilitation of hospital for effective medical care of personnel.
Besides that, he disclosed that he would continue to upgrade the weaponry system and improve on training curricula in order to effectively deliver on the need to have a professional Army ready to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
“We must endeavour to bring succour to those in despair as we discharge our constitutional responsibilities to the Nation. We must do our best to justify this enormous defence expenditure in the face of the dwindling economy. In particular, you have a responsibility to ensure adequate and sustained maintenance of the infrastructure in all our Barracks”.
In his vote of thanks at the Ojo Cantonment, Master Warrant Officer Adebisi Chinweze, the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), Nigerian Army Finance Corps commended the COAS for his impeccable leadership acumen. “We are motivated by your brilliant leadership approach as summarized in your vision and confirmed by your actions.
“Your passion to get the Nigerian Army to conform to extant government reforms has promoted significant enhancements, especially in the provision of infrastructure for the Nigerian Army and ensuring the wellbeing of our troops in the front lines and that of members of their households.”
