The Marine and Anti-vandal teams of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Badagry Division of the Lagos State Command, on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, intercepted some suspected vandals for engaging in dastardly criminal activities in the Badagry area.
Recovered from the vandals who took to their heels when they sighted men of NSCDC, included some thick nylons (white colour) wrapped with 48 sacks loaded with an unknown quantity of litres of petrol, and another 36 kegs loaded with (PMS) which were in 30-litre containers.
The Divisional Officer, Badagry Division, CSC Akinyemi Rasheed Ayodeji, who led the operation while on routine surveillance and patrol about 01:54hrs, and frustrated the suspects from carrying out further evil acts of economic sabotage.
He revealed that the vandals intended to cart away the product through Mangoro Creek along Iya’fin waterways heading towards the Republic of Benin.
However, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro, has said that in a renewed efforts to counter the activities of vandals, the command is going to sustain “a zero-tolerance against oil pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminalities in Lagos state.”
Meanwhile, the Commandant immediately ordered the Anti-vandal unit of the Command to evacuate the suspected products to the headquarters, Lagos State Command, in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, in a bid, to carry out further investigation.
It was however gathered that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) office in the state has also been contacted for proper evacuation of the products because of the highly inflammable nature.
