The Nigerian Army on Tuesday laid to rest Colonel Dahiru Chiroma Bako who was killed from injuries he suffered in an ambush attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri.
Colonel DC Bako, was the Commander, 25 Task Force Brigade of Operation LAFIYA DOLE. He was interred with full military honours at Maimalari Cantonment Military Cemetery, Maiduguri.
The burial was attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, who participated at the internment prayers and reading of funeral oration for the late Colonel.
Also in attendance were the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Senior Military Officers, Families, Friends and Admirers of the late Senior Officer.
The late officer who was often referred to as “Sarkin Yaki” by colleagues was “a personification of the soldiering profession and a great asset to the nation.
“Based on his impeccable qualities as a soldier’s soldier and wonderful person and one of the most gallant, courageous and highly dedicated senior Army officers of the Nigerian Army,” Brig Gen Usman (retd) reiterated in his condolence message.
Colonel Bako died on Monday at the military hospital in Maiduguri following an injury sustained in an ambush.
It was learnt that after clearing the ambush, he was injured and evacuated successfully and an emergency operation was carried out on him by a team of doctors from the military and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
He was said to be stable to the point of performing early morning prayers before he suddenly died.
As Acting Brigade Commander, “he demonstrated his battlefield efficiency on several occasions as he successfully liberated and secured so many towns, captured an uncountable number of terrorists in his area of responsibility within Yobe State.
