
Western Naval Command, Apapa in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital (NNRH) Ojo and the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), have organised a one-day free medical rhapsody for residents of Ajangbadi community in Okokomaiko, Lagos.
The exercise took place on Monday, 26th May, 2025, as part of the activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 69th anniversary.
During the rhapsody, indigene have opportunity to be offered free medical consultation, a blood pressure and blood sugar checks, distribution of treated mosquito nets, and other welfare items.
There were health tips education sessions which focussed on preventive care and healthy living to raise awareness and promote better health practices.
It was learnt that the outreach was aimed at enhancing civil-military relations and contribute to the overall well-being of populace.

In his remarks,the Special Guest of Honour, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, who was represented by the Command Medical Officer, Surgeon Captain VC Igboezue reaffirmed the Navy’s dedication to humanitarian efforts and public health, noting that such initiatives not only address immediate medical needs but also strengthen the Navy’s relationship with local communities.
Also speaking, the President of NOWA represented by the Zonal Coordinator of the WNC Chapter, Mrs. Josephine Oamen, praised the collaborative efforts behind the initiative and emphasized NOWA’s continuous support for health and welfare programs that uplift families and communities.
In attendance was the Baale of Ajangbadi, Chief Wahab Hassan who conveyed the community’s gratitude to the Nigerian Navy, describing the initiative as a timely and much-needed intervention that effectively addressed long-standing health challenges in the area.
This Medical Rhapsody reflects the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to community service and its role in national development beyond maritime security.
