The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has appealed to Nigerians not to engage in activities that could be potentially harmful to life and the environment.
In his Christmas and New year message, the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss informed that outbreaks of fire were highly probable in the dry season, warning against indiscriminate bush burning, use of fire-crackers and storing of premium motor spirit in the homes.
“It is very risky to store petrol in your homes, if you are travelling please do not carry petrol in your booth. This portends danger not only to you but other road users”.
According to a statement by the Head, Public Affairs of FEMA, Nkechi Isa, the Director-General appealed to residents leaving the City for the holidays to be cautious of their security, and to only board vehicles from designated parks in Abuja.
“The FEMA boss assured that the Agency is on the ground round the clock to ensure the safety of lives and property.
“We have already flagged off our dry season campaign with a drill at Karimo market to put a stop to market fires in the FCT.”
“Idriss appealed to residents to always use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of any emergency.
“He wishes the FCT residents a merry Christmas and a Prosperous New year.”
