The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi on Thursday gave a thumbs up to officers under his command saying that cases of uncivilized acts and harassment against the civilians since he assumed duty early this year in the command has reduced.
Speaking during the commissioning of a five-room office complex built by the Lagos State Police Community Relation Committee, (PCRC) which is named after HRM Oba Momodu Ashafa and a groundbreaking ceremony of the State PCRC Permanent Secretariat, said “Acts of incivility has reduced in Lagos State. The narrative is changing. I enjoin you to have trust, confidence and partner with us.
“People should embrace the police force. The entire society should see us as friends and family members. That is why we would always do our best to ensure the masses are protected at all times. Both in the sun, and rain, we are always there. Some of us have paid the supreme price just for others to be protected and safe.
“Let’s constantly have a forum to discuss how we can do things better for service delivery.
While commending PCRC, Lagos State for their magnanimity in building and donating the office accommodation located at Alausa Divisional Police Headquarters, Ikeja, assured the donors that the personnel would optimally utilize the facility to their own advantage.
“The five-room office will enhance our productivity and efficiency” noting that beyond the commissioning of projects, Lagos State PCRC have assisted the police immensely in the area of intelligence gathering and urged them to do more.
CP Alabi, while appreciating the enormity of work they are doing, enjoined them to do more. At the same time, he praised the contributions of the state government which has been top-notch.
The Secretary to the State Government and Grand matron of the State PCRC Mrs. Folashade Jaji expressed joy with the donation of the office complex adding that it would increase the productivity of the policemen who have been groping with accommodation deficit.
She urged the police to do their best in the service of the people. We must commend their efforts in that direction. We appreciate them despite the #Endsars notwithstanding played out which was a sad development. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is trying to make up for them and we would continue to support the police through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
PCRC has made the work of the police easier with the foundation laying ceremony of their Secretariat, which is the first in the state.
The Special Guest of honour at the occasion and Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan noted that for policemen to maintain peace and security, they often times put their lives on the line which goes to show how hard-working, selfless, and committed they are as police officers.
Speaking on the core responsibility of the Police, Dr. Ogunsan added: “the Police represent the civil authority of government; maintain the law, public peace and order. They are also to detect and investigate crimes and criminality.
“Whoever supports their mandate is my friend and that’s why I associate myself with PCRC. You have my support always and we will also try and pull more people to your organization that will be able to support this cause. However, any day you deviate from the cause of supporting them, we lost everything that we stand for”, Dr. Ogunsan, a Grand Patron of PCRC reiterated.
In his speech, the Lagos State Chairman of PCRC, Apostle Kehinde Showemimo observed that what PCRC Lagos was showcasing is a slice of their dedication and commitment to improved safety and security of the people of the state, through their unalloyed support and collaboration with the policing actors, especially the Nigeria Police Force.
Emphasizing that there is no part of Lagos that does not have a PCRC project, Showemimo noted with enthusiasm that every section of the state police command has the signature of PCRC project and would continue to do more to “positively stamp our footprint on the Nigeria police project.”
“The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Lagos state command has made its impact in almost all the 112 divisions and 14 Area commands across the state, especially in terms of logistics and infrastructural support for the Nigeria Police and has not relented,” he reiterated.
“This promised office complex project started in September 2021 and here we are today commissioning the 5-Room office complex with two toilets and showers for male and female officers.
“We can boldly and proudly say that this project was 100% financed through the internally generated resources within PCRC Lagos costing about N7.75m without tasking any group or individual but with voluntary donations and prudent management of our internally generated resources.
The PCRC Lagos in its usual magnanimity and empathy to the course of the Nigeria Police chose to build a befitting office for the occupiers of the temporary structure before embarking on the main project of the PCRC Secretariat.
On her part, the Divisional Police Officer, Alausa Divisional Police Headquarters, Ikeja, CSP Elizabeth Oluwatoyin Opadola whose station the projects are domiciled, applauded CP Alabi for increased manpower needs that has helped the division to provide needed security within its jurisdiction.
To PCRC, she thanked their generosity with the provision of the office complex which would help a great deal in the accommodation deficit confronting the division.
“The major challenge is manpower but I am glad that on the assumption of duty, I requested manpower and was graciously approved. This has helped us to respond to distress calls and provide security to the community including other important facilities within our area of responsibility.
“There is a cordial relationship between our personnel and the community. The constant meeting with Union members, vigilante groups, Baales in addition to weekly meetings by the DPO has improved our security,” CSP Opadola reiterated.
