Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has inaugurated the Abia State Steering Team For Nationwide Youth Engagement Meetings with a charge to establish an accessible, credible structured and sustainable platforms of engagement that will give youths from local communities room to ventilate ideas for State based positions in zonal and national discourse.
Speaking while inaugurating the 19-man committee at Government House Umuahia, on Monday, Governor Ikpeazu charged the Committee to integrate and gainfully engage the youths in skills for participatory governance by contributing in broad thematic areas and issues that requires attention such as Wealth Creation, Social SafetyNet and Employment, Education, Youth Development, Security and Governance.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, disclosed that the inauguration of the Committee is as a result of the fall out of the EndSARS protest as the Government deemed it wise and agreed that youths should be galvanised to enable them get involved in national discourse and fully integrated in matters concerning their welfare.
He further stated that members of the committee which cuts across all political divides and various components of the society as well as all interest groups will be highlighted and taken care of, so that, going forward, those vexing issues that brought about the EndSARS protest across the country does not occur.
Speaking on behalf of the other members of the committee, the Chairman of the committee and Focal Person Social Investment, Chief Chinenye Nwaogu represented by the Director-General, Abia State Mass Mobilization Agency, Mr. Paddy Anyatonwu assured that having been aware of the task ahead, they are going to do their best to make Abia proud.
The 19-man committee was drawn from the civil society organization, Student Union Governments, Youth wings of CAN, people living with disability, young and women groups, youths from various political parties among others.
