The new Lagos State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Barr. Callys Alumona, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, paid a courtesy visit to his inter-agency counterpart of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro in his office, at the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.
Barr. Alumona, in his speech, said that he deemed it necessary to visit NSCDC Commandant Eweka as his first point of call, because of the laudable achievements of the Command in recent times and the cordial inter-agency collaboration between the two security agencies in Lagos State.
He explained that he sought to partner, collaborate, synergise and solidify the existing relationship between the two security agencies in Lagos State, as a reputable law enforcement agency, in order to fulfil their statutory mandates and functions in the state.
Responding, the NSCDC Commandant Eweka, reiterated the position and charge of the Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi on inter-agency collaboration between the NSCDC and other services in the nation. He assured the Lagos State Commander, NDLEA of a good working relationship in the state.
Commandant Eweka who stated that the relationship between NSCDC and NDLEA is historical and remarkable seized the opportunity to share good, achievable and credible intelligence with the NDLEA Commander and other members of his team.
Commandant Eweka, in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASCI Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide assured that the NSCDC will always hand over to the NDLEA, any suspected drug law offenders apprehended by the Command’s operatives during their routine operations.
Commandant Eweka and Barr Alumona agreed to work and partner together, in order to eradicate the proliferation of drugs or substance abuses and many other related offences connected to such in Lagos state.
He said this could be achieved through the deployments of several well-planned strategies, which include but are not limited to robust intelligence gathering, routine operations with the arrest of offenders, in relations with such offences and violations against drug laws, as stipulated by the NDLEA Act.
