A failed attempt to rob plain clothes patrol officers of the Nigerian Police of their patrol bike has led to the arrest of the armed robber by Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives.

The suspect, Akinjobi Wahab, aged 19, was said to have attacked the officers with four other suspects who are now at large, while armed with a machete at about 4 am on Acme Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Disclosing the arrest on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the plain clothes were patrolling on a motorcycle when they were attacked but were able to arrest the robbery suspect while trying to snatch their motorcycle.

He noted that this is coming on the heels of the emplacement of regular foot and vehicular patrols in the area by the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, in response to repeated complaints that robbers operate around Agidingbi, Ikeja very early mornings.

SP Hundeyin reiterated that the suspect will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.
