The Commandant General’s Marine Monitoring Unit, Western Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has intercepted three wooden boats suspected to be ferrying 292 bags of rice to be smuggled into Nigeria, from the Republic of Benin, and three male suspects were also arrested in relation to the crime.
Disclosing this in a statement by the NSCDC Lagos State Command Spokesperson, DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun, said the gallant team of the Command swung into action upon receiving credible and actionable intelligence, at about 0130hrs, on Monday, September 18, 2023, which resulted into the successful arrest of three suspects and seizure of the aforementioned exhibits at the Eleko Beach axis of Lagos State, without any operational glitch.
According to the statement, the resolve of the Commandant General, NSCDC, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to stamp out all forms of economic sabotage, illegal oil dealings and reckless vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure of government remains unflinching.
He said, “This assertion has been proven by this arrest, which is one of the many successful kinetic approaches of the Corps, to ending such sabotage in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
“To this effect, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, has ensured the appropriate and successful handover of the already apprehended suspects and exhibits to the rightful agency, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the base of the CG’s Marine Monitoring, Western Command, in Ijora, Lagos.
“The handover was done by the Commander, CG’s Marine Monitoring, Western Command, Chief Superintendent of Corps, Emmanuel Oloyede to the representative of the Customs authority, from Tin Can, Apapa, Superintendent of Customs Magaji.
“Superintendent of Customs Magaji seized, the opportunity to appreciate the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for its unity of purpose, and enhancement of collaboration as one of the best strategies to end all forms of economic sabotage and heinous crimes in the society.
“The NSCDC, Lagos State Command also by this seizure warned all unrepentant criminals and unscrupulous elements causing untold hardship, food scarcity, vandalism and all forms economic sabotage in the state to as a matter of urgency desist, from it or face the full wrath of the law, when apprehended and found culpable.”
