Health is wealth. For Deputy Superintendent of Corp, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), DSC Ibhafidon John Odion, serving at the Edo State Command, this is certainly not the best of time for him as he battling to stay alive with kidney failure.
The once agile and energetic young officer has been incapacitated after he was first diagnosed with kidney disease in 2022 at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City where he has been undergoing dialysis two times a week, gulping so much money from him and family members.
It was revealed that according to his consultant, Dr (Mrs) I. R. Edeki, Consultant Physician/Nephrologist at UBTH, Ibhafidon will need about N20 million to carry out a kidney transplant at the Zenith Hospital. Incidentally, his mingle salary is not enough to take care of about N300,000 monthly cost of dialysis and drugs at UBTH not to talk of taking care of the huge bill required for the kidney transplant.
While speaking with our Correspondent, Ibhafidon appealed to the Commandant General NSCDC, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant NSCDC, Edo State Command, caring Nigerians, philanthropists, and charity organisations both at home and in the diaspora to assist him financially to carry out the kidney transplant.
“I want to stay alive and I appeal to you to help me as I don’t have the money required to single-handed foot the medical bills for the operation. Every kobo you donate to assist me will be appreciated, and I thank those that have been of immense assistance to me in carrying out twice weekly dialysis.
“Also, I want to use this opportunity to thank my family, colleagues at the NSCDC Edo State Command, and friends for their financial support. They have been awesome and beg them not to rest in their oars because I don’t want to die. Help me; save a sole for the nation and God,” Ibhafidon stated while speaking with our Correspondent.

Ibhafidon Odion hails from Ekhuele-Urohi in Esan West local Government Area, Ekpoma.

However, attempts to reach the Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command NSCDC, DSC Efosa failed as he didn’t pick his calls or respond to a message sent to his WhatsApp platform on what his Command is doing to save the life of DSC Ibhafidon John Odion.
